What Is The Cost Of Comfort? We don't know what the summer of 2022 will be like but we definitely know what this winter will be.very expensive to stay warm! Last December the cost for natural gas was 29 cents per therm. This December it is 68 cents per therm. That is a 57% increase. I don't know of anyone that received that kind of pay increase this year. We all know that the cost of goods has skyrocketed this year due to inflation. There is nothing we can do except cut back on our purchases. However, there is something you can do about your home comfort. If your furnace is over ten years old and is vented with a metal flue pipe, you should consider upgrading to a high efficiency unit. Most furnaces are over- sized which means you are wasting a lot of gas. Also an oversized furnace will not give you a comfortable home. The flue temperature on a basic furnace is +/- 400°F. The flue temperature of a high efficient furnace is 100°F. That extra 300°F is transferred into useful heat for your home instead of escaping out of the chimney.
