Paid Advertisement A Citizen Letter to The Elk Grove Village Board On Thursday April 2, I wrote the letter to the right regarding proactive term limits for the Elk Grove Village Board. In lieu of hand delivery to the next Village Board meeting, and in compliance with the Covid19 shelter in place orders, this letter was sent to the Village President, Trustees and Village Clerk via FedEx Next Day Letter Service. The letter was confirmed as received by Elk Grove Village on Friday April 3, 2020 by FedEx. The time is now for the Village of Elk Grove to do the right thing and allow the residents of our community to decide, with their VOTE, how many terms they wish their elected officials to be able to run for office. I am encouraging all residents to consider telling their Elk Grove Village elected officials to place this referendum question on the April 2021 election ballot as a binding referendum. Furthermore, the Village should not use blocking tactics and not place other referendums items on the ballot blocking this important citizen issue from appearing on the ballot. This issue should be left to the citizens to choose if they desire to have term limits moving forward for the Village Board Members All the residents of Elk Grove Village deserve to have their voices heard and their right to vote on this important issue upheld! April 2, 2020 Mayor Craig B. Johnson Clerk Loretta M. Murphy Village Board of Trustees Village of Elk Grove Village 901 Wellington Avenue Elk Grove Village, IL 60007 RE: Request for Consideration and Submission of Prospective Term Limit Referendum Question Dear Mayor Johnson and Honorable Members of the Elk Grove Village Board, I am writing to request that you consider, by resolution, the submission of a binding public question to the voters of Elk Grove Village at the April 6, 2021 election regarding whether they want to implement prospective term limits. While the widely publicized "retronctive" term limit issue would immediately cause tumover in the Village government, I believe that the public should be asked about whether they want to implement prospective term limits for municipal offices. This matter should be decided by the voters of the community and not the board members. I propose that the question read similar to the following: Shall the terms of office for those persons elected to the offices of Village President (Mayor) and Village Trustee in the Village of Elk Grove Village at the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election, and at cach election thereafter, be limited prospectively such that, for all persons so elected at and after the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election, no person shall be eligible to seek election to, or to hold, clected office in the Village of Elk Grove Village after that person has held the same elected office for two (2) or more consecutive, full four (4) year terms? Given the current pandemic and quarantine orders effective in our State, I wanted to request the Village Board consider acting to submit this question to the voters on its own in lieu of a citizen-petition drive. Also, this question would be submitted for the April 6, 2021 election in the Village as we are aware that the Village very recently adopted three referenda resolutions for the November 3, 2020 General Election and we thank the Village Board for its continued forward-thinking and efforts even in the midst of this crisis. I greatly appreciate your time and consideration and look forward to working with all of you to work on this question and hopefully have it placed on the ballot for a vote. Thank you.
