100 Years and Still Baking...... First Generation Teofil Czerniak came to America from Poland in 1913, a young man excited and eager to pursue the American Dream. He moved to Chicago from New York and met and married Marie. Teofil worked at a bakery where he learned and crafted his talents in baking. He and Marie decided to live their dream and open their first bakery in 1922 in Chicago on the South Side at 51st and Hermitage. He named it. Marie's Pastry Shop. The bakery survived the Great Depression and was relocated to the North Side on Cortez near Kostner. Teofil and Marie would have two sons, Ted and Bobby. Second Generation Ted and Bob would take over the family business from 1948 until 1962. Third Generation Ted and his wife, Dolores would take over the family business in 1948. They would have five children who would all work in the bakery. The Czerniak family was a pillar in the community where they had their bakery throughout the fifties and sixties. Operating under the vision of Ted's parents, they continued to bake their family favorites to the public. Fourth Generation Ted and Dolores's sons Roger and Robert would open a bakery in 1979 in Mt.
