Public Lecture All Welcome Friday, Oct. 12, 2018 7:30 PM Place: Bethel Protestant Reformed Churchh 115 Pratt Blvd, Roselle, IL 60172 Speaker: Prof. Ronald Cammenga Topic: "Getting The Gospel Right: Celebrating the 400th Anniversary of the Canons of Dordt" "We are commemorating this year the 400th anniversary of the Synod of Dordt the "great Synod". This synod resolved the doctrinal controversy that was dividing the Reformed churches of the Netherlands, and impacting the Reformed church worldwide at the time. Two parties who were at odds were known as the Arminians and the Calvinists. Representatives from around the world gathered in Dordrecht, the Netherlands, to decide the issue. The synod condemned the position of the Arminians and upheld the Calvinists. It produced a document that defended Calvinism as the truth of the gospel, a document that is known as the "Canons of Dordt". Come join us as we review this glorious moment in church history and celebrate the great victory for the truth of the gospel that the Synod of Dordt was." About Our Speaker: Prof Commenga was ordained into ministry in 1979. For the next 25 years he served four congregations; one in lowa, one in Colorado, and two in Michigan. In 2005 he accepted the appointment to teach Reformed Dogmatics and Old Testament Studies in the Protestant Reformed Theological Seminary. He is married to Rhonda and together they bave eleven children and thirty-six grandchildren. Just in the last couple of weeks they have become empty-nesters, their youngest son baving just married.
