Consider ohese ohoughis by Debbie J. Thompson Owner/Funeral Director/CPC THE FACTS OF DEATIH Death is an uncomfortable subject for many people. Just as parents take the responsibility of revealing "the facts of life" to their young children, adult children find it necessary to discuss the facts of death with their aging parents. While such conversations can be difficult, children may be surprised to find how willing their aging parents are to finally discuss matters surrounding their death, funeral, and burial/cremation. In fact, many older adults find the topic difficult to approach and are simply looking for an opportunity to do so. In some cases, parents may let it be known "that everything is taken care of," in which case, children need only familiarize themselves with the arrangements. The subject of funerals is never easy to discuss. For the same reasons you write a will or buy life insurance, people feel that it is a good idea to prepare for the future and makie their own, personal plans. At the time of an actual funeral most decisions need to be made within a few hours. But, by preplanning the service options, you can take your time and make the decisions in an unhurried and thoughtful way.
