The Illinois Chapter, National Electrical Contractors Association was chartered March 10, 1945, as one of the autonomous Chapters, now totaling approximately 120, of NECA. The Chapter is incorporated under the laws of the State of Illinois as a nonprofit corporation and holds tax exempt status under Section 501(c)(6) of the Internal Revenue Code as a Trade Association.

The Chapter presently is composed of eight (8) Divisions where the Chapter holds bargaining rights for its members and other electrical contractors in the area. The Divisions are: Alton/Wood River, Bloomington, Champaign-Urbana/Streator-Pontiac, Danville, Midstate, Southern Illinois, Southwestern Illinois and Springfield. The general area in the State of Illinois included in these Divisions ranges from the Streator-Pontiac area on the north to the Missouri and Kentucky state lines on the south and from the Beardstown area on the west to the Indiana state line on the east.
