Business Insight Let's Get A Good Start! New Year's Day and a week after is often a beginning of many resolutions and planning for the future. We all try to make commitments to ourselves and, unfortunately, we often do not keep them. I like looking into the future too, but like many of you, sometimes I get too busy to keep up with my planning. In my case, it is usually connected to how occupied I get during the Holidays, both at home and in the office. We usually try to extend working hours and see as many patients as possible. Many of the patients try to use their vacation time during the holidays or deductibles from the past year insurance. There is a lot of shopping and cooking at home, family and friends are visiting and we visit them. The bottom line is that the last 2-3 weeks of every year is not a normal routine life, but a lot of 'extras: And here we are, the new year started, and we are looking into the future, and we often forget how the last few weeks might have affected us both, physically and mentally. We might have gained some pounds here and there, there could have been too much sugar, alcohol, less sleep, and less exercise. There could have been some good family meetings and some bad arguments if topics went off the rail. Bills will start coming soon and financial planning may require changing some of our commitments for the new year. Students will go back to their dorms, and we need to re-evaluate the mess they might have left behind. Thankfully, days will start getting longer, but winter is just starting. We all hope it will not hit us as much as we watch the news about Buffalo. presented by Arlington Dermatology So, what is the best way to start this new year? Several comments might help you with a good beginning. First, let us evaluate how badly we let our health get affected by the change of routine. Checking your blood pressure and weight may be a good start. If you know your normal routine diet went south recently, let us have a short blood work done to make sure some of the crucial components are still in a normal value. This is a good option for all of those who happened to get some cold or other infection during the holidays. Many of those infections are not COVID-related but they might have altered your body and immune response. Try to get back to your regular healthy routine as fast as possible and make it a goal. Your skin needs a good feed, so do not forget about scrubbing off your old surface, especially if you skipped days of the maintenance you normally follow. Make sure to nourish it with hydration product and drink a lot of water. If you do notice a change in weight and you feel tired, have a short primary doctor visit to evaluate the reason. Sometimes a quick discussion may reveal things you did not consider important. Remember that food and healthy sleep are the base of our well-being and, if you do know it was all in holiday style, getting back on track may require a doctor's order. I say in jokingly, but too often we see new medical problems starting right after the holidays and not recognized and addressed until much later. In all my comments, please focus on a good start with your own good health. Once you achieve that, all other planning will become much easier.
