Business Insight presented by Arlington Dermatology Freezing Rain Should Not Mean Frozen Hearts First of all, I really want to thank my readers for many responses and comments to my writings. I read and contemplate on every single one. And I am really happy! motivate you to reflecting on my topics. Some may ask why I do not keep writing about skin and medicine. True, I do not limit myself to my professional narrow topics. But I comprehend the world in a different and more broad way. Skin is an organ that covers people. People live in an environment. Environment builds the town and its culture. Medicine is a field of science. But science is much more than medicine and medicine would not survive without all other fields of science, like chemistry, anthropology, and even statistics. Looking at things from only one perspective minimizes our understanding of the world and our own bodies. Recently, I also read several really interesting articles about stress and sadness among young people. Teenagers' lack of motivation and pressure to fall under the stress are overwhelming. And we seem to hear that COVID-19 is to blame. Certainly, the pandemic did not make it easier, but the problems with our young ones started much earlier. Young people, are not only, are very often shaped by the environment they live in. That means the close family, home, friends, school, teachers, and many more. Communication has been limited and re-directed to the tools rather than human for at least a decade. Schools offer testing and computers, but hardly open discussions. Friends keep texting but do not talk. There are jokes about families sitting at dinner and everybody holds a phone. Certainly, businesses like the fact that we keep buying iphones for everybody the moment they learn how to hold the tool. And yes, it is excellent we can get all the possible information we want with a strike of a key. But all of it means lack of human contact. We behave like robots, and we allow companies to replace humans at work by robots. Do not take me wrong, I am not against technology. I am the science man. I believe in medical science and all other science. I look for evidence-based research in everything I do. But there should be limits. If we do not set them up, we will suffer. Humankind was not made for texting; we were created to talk and communicate with each other through gestures and signs of emotions. Iphones do not show our emotions. Social media created bullies not lovers. Medicine needs the human touch. Without it, it becomes a frozen heart. Each of us will learn it at some point of life unless we change it around us. And if we change it around us, we have a chance of changing the world. I would like you to visit a book I happen to read recently. Written by the current Governor of Maryland, it is called 'The Other Wes Moore. It was actually written by him long before he became interested in running for office. In short, he covers a story of two real individuals, both named Wes Moore, growing-up in very similar places, but shaped in a different way by the environment and people around. One grows to be a graduate of John Hopkins University and Rhodes Scholar, who ends up in banking and ultimately politics, and the other ends up in prison, with a life sentence. How did it happen? Please, help me find the answer.
