Business Insight Peace on Earth How to write about the Holidays and Peace on Earth when there are so many wars and fights? Humankind made tremendous progress in technology, medicine, comfort of living, wealth, and lifestyle. Yet, millions are hungry and dying, and more millions are fighting over the land, power, money, and blind ideology. Where do you find peace in all of it? You cannot change the world. You CAN change your small 'world, the world around you and your family. You can also change your heart. Peace on Earth starts with peace of heart. This does not mean you should run to church or temple and spend hours celebrating. You can still do that. But what you could really do to get peace in your heart is to reflect on what and who is around you and who is in real need of help and assistance. I call it direct giving. Giving is usually associated with money and it could be money too. But many people need things other than money. They may need warm coats, a new walker, or simply a warm meal. They may also need a good word and your presence. So many people are lonely these days and they are hungry for human presence in their lives. You can easily give it to them. presented by Arlington Dermatology True giving is the one without rewards. If you offer your money, in- kind items or time for the Holidays, do not seek the write off from taxes, or a recognition in a newsletter. Do it from your heart and without counting on any returns. Try to experience the joy of giving without receiving. And reach out to those who may not really be your friends. It is easy to exchange gifts and words with friends. A much harder task is to make peace with those who are not your friends. You still can make a small step forward and open communication that did not exist before. Do it for the sake of Peace on Earth. And finally, but not less importantly, make peace with yourself. Look into your own person, your mind and accept that you are not perfect, you are not always right, and you are not always a winner. But you are a human being of irreplaceable value. Take care of your mind and body. Do not risk your life and health in an irresponsible way. Find a good balance in life. Live your life for yourself and for others. Cherish your success and overcome sadness if you fail. Acknowledge things that depend on you but learn how to accept and tolerate things that are not up to you. Be kind but be your own self. I wish you all a very healthy and happy Holiday season.
