West Suburban Humane Society's annual Petals for Pets Plant Sale, sponsored in part by Gerald Subaru of Naperville, is set for Friday and Saturday, May 12-13, at Doggie Depot, 635 Rogers St. in Downers Grove. Fetch a Bounty of Beautiful Plants at Petals for Pets Planting and gardening season is underway, and West Suburban Humane Society is inviting the community to add beautiful blooms to the landscape while helping pets in need. The organization's annual Petals for Pets Plant Salle is set for noon-7 pm. Friday, May 12, and 9 am. to 3 pm. or when plants run out, on Saturday, May 13, at Doggie Depot, 635 Rogers St. in Downers Grove. The sale will feature a wide selection of hanging baskets, flats herbs, vegetables and perennials Serving the community for 50 years, West Suburban Humane Society works to strengthen the connections between animals and people through advocacy, humane education and the promotion of animal welfare initiatives. The organization also offers an education program to promote respect, empathy and compassion for animals while educating people of all ages about animal homelessness, shelters, adoptions and the proper care of domestic dogs and cats. "As an effort to keep local animals in their homes when their families are facing hard times we have also partnered with local food pantries to share the donations we received from the community," said Carolyn Mossberger, Executive Director of the West Suburban Humane Society. By providing dog and cat food to these pantries we minimize the potential that families in need will have to surrender their animals if they cannot afford to feed them. In 2022 we donated more than 6,000 pounds of food to local pantries Last year's event raised $12,000, and this year West Suburban Humane Society is hoping to raise $15,000. The plant sale fundraiser is made possible through generous sponsors that include Gerald Subaru of Naperville. "West Suburban Humane Society is proud to partner with Gerald Subaru of Naperville through their Subaru Loves Pets initiative, Mossberger said. "Gerald Subaru has been key in expanding the news of our good works by featuring our pets in their newsletters and sponsoring our fundraising events Together we can get the word out about our good work and find homes for more animals "Our pets bring so much joy to our lives and we love supporting an organization that helps so many animals lead happier, healthier lives and find their fur-ever homes, said Donna Lawler of Gerald Auto Group. "The work the West Suburban Humane Society does to support homeless animals is remarkable. The plant sale is an ideal way to spruce up your yard this spring and summer while giving to a great cause!
