Set for July 20-23 at Volunteer Park, the Com Boil Festival features live music, a carnival, car show, a movie in the park and food and craft vendors. The tradition dates back to 1967, when a small civic group called the Young Adults Club decided to host a four-hour event with friends and neighbors to raise money for a new street lamp. The group reorganized to become the Sugar Grove Community Group, continuing to fundraise for village improvements, with the festival growing each year before moving to a new location at Volunteer Park to eventually expand into the popular multiday fest that exists today. "We have had people from as far away as Ireland come to the event said Jackie Link, president of the Sugar Grove Com Boil Committee. "Many come from surrounding communities. It's right there in our slogan-for friends and family to come together and have fun!" The festival's star attraction-com on the cob-is sponsored by the Gerald Subaru of North Aurora. "Without our sponsors, the Corn Boil would not be possible, and Gerald Subaru of North Aurora has been one of those generous sponsors over the years" Link said. "What's great about the Gerald is that they are engaged and actively involved in the communities that they live in and serve and that matters. For the Com Boil, they give an increased awareness of how our organization continues to promote a sense of community.
